INSPIRE program in Nepal
INSPIRE Nepal was founded in 2022 by Bachan Ghimire and Prof. Daniela Damian, the director of the INSPIRE program, who was Bachan’s graduate supervisor in Computer Science. While INSPIRE was an emerging idea, Bachan envisioned the unlimited potential the program has in his developing home country. However, to fully understand the program’s values, offers, and impacts, he decided to become an INSPIRE Apprentice Garage member in the summer of 2022 and work on the Greater Victoria Coalition to end Homelessness in Canada Project. He then went on to launch the first INSPIRE Nepal project in the fall of same year. Bachan and his family were visited by Daniela in Nepal, where they made plans for expansion of the program, discussed research ideas, and also spent a few days travelling across the mountainous terrains of Nepal. Bachan was a co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at his software company, where he arranged a collaborative office-work space for INSPIRE Nepal in 2022. From his extensive network with educational institutes and non-profit organizations, the first cohort, team AKAS, was formed and they carried out a community transformation impact measurement project with Tearfund, a Scottish government program in Nepal. Other follow up projects engaged Human Development and Community Services (HDCS), Chaurjhari Hospital in Rukkum, Sundar Dhoka, and Nepal Christian Relief Society.
